FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Our Family Orphan Communities make a profit from any part of the operation of the orphanage communities?
No. All funds that are donated, or that may come from any sale of goods within an orphan Community are returned to further the work of this non-profit organization serving street orphans.

Is Our Family Orphan Communities affiliated with a church or religious group?
Our Vision Statement says: “Our Family Orphan Communities, Inc exists to improve life for orphans of any race, religion or gender throughout the world.” We welcome help from any religious tradition which wants to help with this purpose. We do not think it is correct to exclude help to needy children because they, or others who are serving them, might not share our beliefs. Many great religious leaders have taught that helping others unconditionally is fundamental.

Yes. As a 501-c-3 all donations to our charitable organization are tax deductible. (Click to view our determination letter)

Can we adopt children who are living in the Community?
The purpose of the Community is to provide children with a family. Since they will have a family in the Community, they are not available for adoption to other families.

Is it possible for private investors to own part of the “economic engines?” To invest in the Social Businesses?
There are some opportunities. In the case of the Community owned businesses, investors will be repaid their initial investment, with appropriate interest. Send us an email regarding your desire and how much you would like to invest, click here.

Why not simply provide additional support to existing orphanages or other services which help orphans?
International organizations such as the UN/UNICEF and others point out that traditional institutions/orphanages are not able to prepare children for their future as well as a family can.

We do not just want to find a better way to simply do what has always been done (basic institutional house, feed, clothe), we want to introduce something new. We envision something unique and different that can revolutionize the way we help homeless young people. Family groups so the children know what it means to be part of a family, to learn how they can raise a family when they grow up, opportunities to learn job skills, supplemental education, all built into “The self-sustaining Community”.
